My Top 5 Creative Cakes!
I have created a lot of cakes – probably near on 100! That’s a lot of sponge, fondant and fillings. When a customer tasks me to create a cake I ask them a few questions:
- Is there a particular theme would you like me to follow?
- Do you have any hobbies?
- Have you got anything specifically you would like me to make?
Usually the customer provides me information based on the three questions above. I then start designing the cake…
I love using Pinterest and Instagram to gather inspiration and ideas which I can then take and re-create to come up with my own masterpiece.
Once the design stage has been finished, I get to work. My favourite part of the process!
As I have said, I’ve made 100s of cakes but I do have some favourites! Here are my top 5 favourite creative cakes that I have made. I have based this on the enjoyment I got when making the cake, how good the end result looks and the customer satisfaction when presented with their cake.
Without further ado, please see below:
1. Dartboard Cake with Cupcakes
This was a very fun cake to make! I made it for a local customer who was having a party in a local pub and wanted a cake to feed between 50 and 60 people. He told me his hobbies and I decided to make a full sized dartboard completely out of cake with cupcakes to go with. The sponge was chocolate with double chocolate chip filling – yummy! I love this cake because of how good the end result is & the reaction I got when I gave the cake to the customer… Priceless!
Yes, this is really made all from cake and icing… Each flower has been crafted by hand and the pot has been sculpted by hand too. I loved making this cake as it is something I have never attempted before and to-be-honest wasn’t sure if I was able to do. The customer absolutely loved the cake and enjoyed the taste too. It was a madeira sponge with a vanilla buttercream.
One of the reasons I love this cake so much is because it is so cute! It turned out way better than I had hoped and the customer loved it – their reaction was priceless! Another reason I loved doing this cake is because it has a very unusual flavour… Lemon sponge and lemon filling! It tasted delicious (I know as there are lots of leftovers when cake making – perks of the job!).
4. Camera Cake
This cake I actually made for my sister’s birthday. She was blown away as was the rest of my family. I made this cake when I first started getting into cake making which is why I love it so much – it illustrated my skills and I knew I could take this passion further! Another great thing about this cake was that I got to eat i for a change! It tasted great… Chocolate sponge and creamy chocolate buttercream finish – yummy!
5. 90th Birthday Cake
This cake is adorable – right? The little figure is so cute and I loved creating it. It actually looked just like the birthday boy too. I loved making this cake as it was a challenge to model a figure based on a real person, but I think it turned out pretty good. The cake was a red velvet sponge with vanilla buttercream!
So, there you have it – my top 5 favourite creative cakes that I have made so far. I have lots and lots of cake orders coming up so you never know I might make a cake which will make this list!
